CLEVELAND, Ohio - A new update in the phone game Pokemon Go has brought another generation of pokemon monsters to the game.
The phone game, which uses augmented reality to display an animated Pokemon in a real-life location on screen, emerged over the summer of 2016 to be one of the most downloaded apps in history.
Niantic, the game's creators, announced earlier this week that an update would bring more than 80 new Pokemon to the game, all from the second generation of creatures.
That update has officially been added to the game.
Along with new monsters, the update has also included new items and eggs. New pokemon include powerful monsters like Blissey, Steelix and Heracross. Forbes ranked some of the newly-released pokemon as the most powerful ones in the game.
The app's popularity declined following the summer of its release, but it also didn't experience any significant updates like the one released this week.
Could this update be enough to bring Pokemon Go back to the top of the download charts? We'll have to wait and see.
